It Could Happen (11)

posted Wednesday, 20 August 2003

Sandra was waiting in one of the station’s production studios when Danny walked in. Her producer was dressed for the beach…which is where she was headed after this impromptu session. Danny’s eyes ran appreciatively over legs that went from here to eternity.

“How the hell do you expect me to get any work done with you dressed like that?” She teased. “Or is that the point?” Danny gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“Ha-fucking-ha Danny. This is called beachwear. Commonly worn at the beach, where I’d better be in an hour if I don’t want Monica to finally give up on me.”

“Trust me…we’ll be done by then. Besides, Mon’s not a fool…she knows she’s got something special with you.”

Sandra sighed and suddenly turned serious. “You really think so? I mean sometimes I’m certain she really does care for me…but then these doubts take over and I start feeling she could do so much better.”

Danny knew where this was coming from, and felt a familiar rage at the woman who had led Sandra on for 3 tumultuous years, steadily breaking her spirit, and finally, her heart. She silently cursed Tisha for the hundredth time as she slid her arms around her friend. Quit doing this to yourself, sweetheart.

“Sandra, you are a beautiful, wonderful, intelligent woman…and any girl would count herself lucky to hold your heart. You’ve got to trust in what you and Mon share, and quit waiting for her to leave you.”

“Yeah…you’re right, and most of the time I know that.” Sandra gave herself a mental shake. “Oh God, just listen to me. I don’t know how you can stand my constant whining.”

Danny smiled and gave an extra squeeze before letting go. “I love you, that’s how. Besides…you don’t go to the dark side as often as you used to.  Monica must have some pretty amazing healing powers.”

“Yes…she is amazing.” Sandra’s hand brushed Danny’s cheek. “And so are you. Thank you, Danny. You’ve been a rock through all this.”

Danny felt a flush of pleasure tinged with self-effacing embarrassment. She moved over to the console and began flipping switches.

“Easy girl…I’m spoken for. Or at least, I hope I am. Too soon to tell.”

“You dragged me in here on a Saturday to prep for a Monday night show so you could spend the rest of the weekend gazing at her. I’d say you are definitely hooked.”

“I dunno,” Danny ran a hand through her hair. “The whole love at first sight thing hasn’t worked out too well for me in the past, Sandy.”

“It takes the right person for it to work, I think. And you just gotta keep practicing until you find her.”

“Hey! You should be doing my show…” Danny grinned at her.

“Uh huh. Just remember that the next time you pull a diva stunt with the station big wigs. They’ve been secretly grooming me as your replacement.”

“And speaking of work,” Sandra continued how about we get on with this so you can get back to your new woman?”

“I wish.” Danny said, flipping through a folder. “Ok…who do we have on the birthday list?”

“We got Max Factor, Shelley Winters, Roman Polanski, Robert Redford, Patrick Swayze--”

“Patrick Swayze and Redford share the same birthday? Well, well.”

“Yup. Also Edward Norton, Dennis Elliot – the drummer from Foreigner - Christian Slater and Malcolm Jamal-Warner.” Sandra concluded.

“That’s a lot of actors.” Danny commented. “Hmmm, let’s see. We’ll segue the Foreigner guy, of course. And we should be able to do something with Swayze…”

“How about segueing into Tina Turner and Private Dancer? That should flow with the dirty theme…you know, the whole ‘dancer for money’ thing.”

“Works for me. And we can move from Max Factor to the Commodores. ‘Three Times a Lady” was a top tenner in ‘78”

They worked well together and soon had a playlist for the show. Of course having 2 beautiful women to return to gave some added motivation to get the job done.

The door opened seconds after Danny hit the bell. She held her breath as she looked at Jill, marveling again at her beauty. They smiled silently at each other for a moment.

“For you, fair maiden.”  Danny finally found her voice, and whipped out a single white rose with what she hoped could be described as a flourish.

Jill’s eyes widened in surprise. She took the rose with one hand, using the other to pull Danny close enough to kiss.  Danny felt her heart contract with the whispers of tenderness and desire evoked by Jill’s lips.

“Hey you” Jill said softly after they pulled apart.

Danny caressed the other woman’s cheek. “Hey yourself,” she said. “You like?”

Jill nodded and ushered her in. “I like.” She carefully put the rose down, then turned to put her arms around Danny. “I had no idea you were this corny. I think its sweet.” Jill kissed her chin. “I think you’re sweet.”

“Damn…I should have gotten 12 of them. I’m guessing you’d have dragged me into your bedroom to ravish my body, right?”

            “Wrong, Ms West.”

Danny’s eyebrow went up. “You sure about that?” She let her hands stray downward as she slid a thigh between Jill’s, and watched desire darken her eyes.

Jill gasped. “I wouldn’t have waited to get to the bedroom.” She let out a moan as she pushed hard against the invading leg.

“That’s better.”  Danny pulled away and gave her a lazy grin. “Now aren’t you going to show me around?”

“Hey…no fair.” Jill tried to catch her breath. “You are such a tease! Fine…I’ll show you my humble abode. But we’ll skip the bedroom on this tour.”

“Afraid we’ll wind up in the bed?”

“Well…there is that. And the fact that it’s an unholy mess. I sorta had a problem deciding what to take with me for the weekend.” Jill grinned sheepishly.

            “It’s just for tomorrow, Jill.”

“Exactly. So, you see, it has to be just right.”

Danny laughed and shook her head. “You’re such a girly girl.”

“But you love me for it, don’t you?” Jill playfully fluttered her eyelids.

“Wouldn’t have it any other way, darling.”
